Anne Go-away

There was an African American woman named Nia Wilson senselessly murdered in a knife attack by a mentally ill man in Oakland I guess a couple weeks ago…  The man, who was on parole, was a homeless schizophrenic, and he was also white.

RIP to Nia, condolences to her grieving family, and swift recovery to her sister, who was also injured in the attack.

There is an automatic assumption that the murder was racially motivated, and maybe it was.  Or maybe it was motivated by plain old crazy.  I’m going to go on my own gut-feel that it was a little bit of both, and these poor girls were stabbed by a crazy racist.  A crazy racist who I hope ultimately gets buried under the prison for the crimes he committed.

This is what Anne Hathaway had to say about it…

I have a question: What good does this do?  And I don’t mind asking it at a time where people should simply be mourning for a girl and prosecuting a murderer, because Anne’s comments have successfully taken the focus in this case off the victims and moved the narrative towards Anne Hathaway.

She cares so much about this cause, but she’s not donating any time or money… She’s donating an annoying tweet.

Does she go to bed after hitting SEND thinking that’s enough?  That her comments will affect the mindset of crazy racists on either side of the color spectrum to have an “Aha!” moment of clarity?… “You know what, Cletus? I used to think my deep rooted hatred towards other races was justified, but not any more, thanks to the millionaire actress who arguably portrayed the worst version of Cat Woman*!”

If I was a black person, I don’t think I would appreciate Hathaway injecting herself into the role of White Savior, and I also don’t think I would accept her almost racist portrayal of their culture being filled with people fearing for their lives every day.

Similarly, if I was a white person (I don’t identify with a color), I would point out that not all of our lives exist in a “no fear” vacuum provided by heathy Hollywood paychecks and the subsequent access to security details that go along with them.

Por ejemplo: I park in Port Authority a couple times a week, and I fear for my fucking life if I have to go back there after the sun goes down.  And I, according to Hathaway’s line of thought, am probably the poster boy for white privilege.

I can tell you who isn’t the poster boy for white privilege-  A 27 year old ex-con (for burglary) who was also bi-polar/schizophrenic.  That poster doesn’t really fly off the shelves in white propaganda stores.

I don’t even know why I am even commenting on this.  I happened to read the tweet, and I guess it resembled so many other Hollywood assholes who want to open borders and prisons, but they want to do it from the safety of walled-in mansions.  Or maybe because Hathaway just has that annoying aura that I think Howard Stern described best as, “Even when she’s talking in real life, she’s always reading from a script.”

In the end, Hathaway’s stated intention was to not change Nia Wilson’s name into hashtag #NiaWilson, and she was successful.

She changed it into #AnneHathaway.

Take a report.
